Louth's political representatives share hopes and ambitions for 2023

The Dundalk Democrat asked local TDs, councillors and senators from north and mid Louth to share their hopes, ambitions and predictions for the year ahead. In this article, Fine Gael's Cllr John Reilly shares his thoughts on 2023

Going into next year, one of the biggest highlights for me will be our new bank holiday in honour of our local saint, St Brigid, who of course was born in Faughart.

In 2024, it will be 1500 years since she passed away. During this year, I have focused on getting new signage and a clean-up of Faughart graveyard in order to promote tourism in the area, especially due to the new bank holiday in her honour due next year.

I will be working on a cross-border walk at Urney Graveyard this year in Dungooley as it is to be a stop on the Ring of Gullion.

The lobbying for the extension of the footpath on the Armagh road is a priority for road safety for pedestrians in that area.

I am confident that this matter will be addressed in early 2023.

I am currently working with Get Connected to improve different mobile blackspots, especially the one in the Templetown area.

The Roche Tractor Run in aid of North Louth Hospice, which raised €6,150 in 2022, will take place again in 2023 and is an event I look forward to.

I believe we will have the same government this time next year. On a personal basis, I would like to continue with my hard work and my priority on a political level will be to get re-elected at the local elections in June 2024.
