Nuremore ladies put up a good fight, but victory was ours with the final result 6 ½ to 3 ½, the Intermediate Hilton Shield returns once again to Mannan Castle. Once again thanks to David White of Howell Jewellers who sponsored the new Shield.

Mannan Castle was a busy place last week as Open Week kicked off on Sunday July 8 and even the heavy rain showers did not deter golfers from playing.

Thankfully 18 holes remained open all week despite the excessive July rainfall, the work that has been done on drainage over the years has really paid off.

Darragh Kelly featured in three events this week with Frances McBride in the winning circle twice this week. The Coyle brothers had a tremendous score of 97pts in Friday’s rumble. The nearest to them with 79pts were ladies Cepta Maddick (Seapoint), Mary McNamee and Nuala Mulholland.

Visitors Kieran McGahan from Carrickfergus convincingly won the Mens Thursday Open with 41pts and Epp Koemets (Nuremore) finished 7pts ahead of the ladies on Thursday. On Saturday brother and sister team David and Louise Hanratty were 4pts ahead of the field with 44pts.

It was great to see so many of our young golfers do so well during open week, especially since many of them are now playing off single digit handicaps.

We could not have a successful Open Week without our generous sponsors, so thanks to Watters Electrical, Shane Connolly Chemist, Aviva, McArdle Testing Centre, TW Stores, Pat Carragher, Owen Kearney Catering and our Professional Kevin Mc Givern.
