Mannan Castle Seniors

It was a day of exceptional scoring in Mannan Castle Seniors' weekly competition. Playing to your handicap wasn't going to cut it on a day when a lot of golfers managed to return cards which were considerably better than could have been expected.

By far the best score recorded on the day was by Gerry Corbally (PH29) with 32 points.The highlights of his round were a great par on hole 9 for 4 points, followed immediately by a birdie 2 on hole 10 for 5 points.

Needless to say, this was more than enough for the overall victory. Leo Murphy (PH16) posted an equally impressive score of 29 points, which included a run of eight consecutive pars from hole 2.

Even a deduction of 3 points for a previous win didn't prevent him from collecting the category 1 prize. In category 2, David Flynn (PH24) also had 29 points and, on any other day, would have been a winning score.

However, he cruelly lost out on countback to Richard Eakin (PH24), whose birdie on eight and par on nine for 4 points on each proved decisive.

The winning score in category 3 was at a more normal level, with Peter Sloan (PH26) edging out Peter Burns (PH24) on countback with 25 points.

Mannan Castle Ladies

Our Ladies had a fantastic pre-Christmas end-of-year party and presentation of prizes. Lady Captain Angela Ever presented the prizes, and there was a great festive atmosphere around the club. Thanks to all the ladies who brought tasty bites to eat.
