Clan na Gael GFC held a well attended AGM on Wednesday November 28. Chairman Aidan Kirk welcomed those present to reflect on a year which saw the Intermediate team finish with a near miss in the league and a disappointing show in the Championship final. He thanked Cathal O’Hanlon and his mentors and all other club mentors at the various levels.
The meeting was addressed by Intermediate team manager Cathal O’Hanlon who also spoke of his disappointment at losing out on promotion. He thanked his mentors Brian Duffy and Jim Brady and the players for their hard work. Re-elected to the post for 2013, Cathal stated his goal would be to go one better in the new season and he will continue with the same back-up team.
Secretary Paula Harrison, in her report, also thanked the many mentors from U8 upwards and hoped that in 2013 the Junior A Championship might receive better attention than in 2012 when it was run off in three weeks after a period when the club had no football for eight weeks during the summer months.
Treasurer Fra Byrne returned a healthy balance sheet and was praised for his astuteness in handling the club’s finances.
Club Chairman Aidan Kirk also praised the outgoing sub-committee chairmen: Niall O’Donnell - juvenile football; Bob Wesley - facilities and Gerry Hoey - fundraising, all of whom gave detailed accounts of their activities.
