Stabannon got their league campaign off to a winning start after a hard fought win against their neighbours John Mitchels Sunday afternoon in Stabannon.
The Mitchels got off to a good start and led by 1-3 to 0-1 after twenty minutes, however Stabannon replied with a goal from Padraig Lynch to close the deficit to 1-4 to 1-2 at half time.
The Mitchels extended their lead to three points early in the second half with a good point from Ryan Carroll but that was to be their last score of the game.
Stabannon dominated the rest of the game but only took the lead with 10 minutes to go when Thomas McBride got a goal from a penalty after Aonghus Giggins had been fouled.
Best for Stabannon was James Lynch while Stabannon had the upper hand at midfield.
