The launch of Forever Fit Teens was held in DKIT on Friday with support from Gary Kelly and Peter Fitzpatrick, to name but a few.
The unique camp for teenagers aims to develop lifelong fitness and eating habits in a fun environment.
Forever Fit Teens will run for 2 separate weeks from the July 2-6 and the July 9-13. The camp will provide a fun, energetic atmosphere to help campers achieve their goals whether this is to shed some pounds, start a new sport, become the best at their game or just to meet new people.
The camp is unique in that it is the only one of its kind aimed at teenagers in the country. It is also targeting the increasing childhood obesity issue, with 1 in 5 teenagers classified as overweight; it is a worsening problem which the camp aims to address.
It also caters for budding sports stars who want to reach the top of their game with the help of the experienced staff.
The camp is run by Niamh Kelly, Bronagh McGrane, Dean Rock and Laura Mahony.
Niamh is an experienced dietitian who has worked in international weight loss camps in the UK and is an all round fitness fanatic having competed for Ireland in juvenile athletics. Bronagh is a PE teacher, with coaching experience in rugby, gaa and athletics, she is also a member of the successful Stabannon Parnells Ladies Senior team. Dean is a DCU sports scientist and inter-county Dublin footballer with an All Ireland under 21 medal and Sigerson Cup medal in 2012.
Laura is also a dietitian with experience in working with GAA teams increasing nutritional awareness. She herself is an inter-county camogie player in Laois.
The camp has the support of many, including Louth Manager and TD Peter Fitzpatrick, who says “the camp is a great initiative and no doubt will be a great success”, childhood obesity is an area he too is passionate about. This camp has drawn the attention of numerous sports stars such as Colm Cooper, Bernard Dunne, Gary Kelly and Rob Kearney who are all very excited about the prospects of the camp with some offering to make an appearance over the two weeks of camp.
The camp will cater for teenagers aged 12-18 years old. The camp will run in DKIT sports grounds and sports hall. To apply go to www.ffteens.com.
