The heartache felt by the Glen Emmets in 2011 after their final defeat to St Fechin’s in the Junior Championship final was what drove them to victory against Lannleire on Sunday, according to full forward Colin Grimes
“We were on the wrong end of it last year and we’re delighted we’ve turned it round last year.
“The whole village was down after the Fechin’s beat us but we’ve got the rewards for the work we’ve put in. The hard, cold nights at Cusack Park from the start of the year has paid off.
“It was tense finish but we fought through to the very end. Dunleer came at us from the start and we were a few points down but we knew that was going to happen.
“They are a tough side. We played them earlier in the Championship and we did well to get back and draw with them so the feeling was that it would be a tight game with one or two points settling it.”
“We missed quite a few chances which is unusual because throughout the year we’ve been strong up front. I missed quite a lot myself but we knew we just had to keep plugging away. The important thing was getting the scores at vital times and that’s what we did.”
