THE Carlingford Oyster Festival is seeking entrants for this year’s ‘lovely girl’ competition which will see the winner walk away with top prizes including e1,000 in cash.
The winner will be crowned Morgan’s Fine Fish Carlingford Oyster Pearl 2013 and in addition to a e1,000 cash prize will receive one year’s membership to The Four Seasons Leisure Centre, Carlingford, a pearl necklace from Campbell’s Jewellers Dundalk and a weekend break for two at a Nathan Carter Show.
“The 2012 Carlingford Oyster Pearl Competition was amazing. We had so much fun and laughed our way through most of it. We were treated so well and had a real sense of adding to the whole festival,” said Carlingford Oyster Pearl 2012 Erin O’Connor.
“I made so many new friends and actually in the end, winning was just the icing on the cake although the e1,000 prize was very nice.”
Participants in this year’s competition will get to cruise on the lough with lunch on board, go on a tractor ride at Carlingford Oyster Farm, strut their stuff on the catwalk, take part water activities (courtesy of the Carlingford Adventure Centre), dine out in Carlingford’s award-winning restaurants and take part in the finale night at The Four Season’s Hotel, Carlingford.
The famous festival promises five fun-filled days from August 8-12 with a packed programme of fun, delicious food and oyster pearl antics.
In celebration of The Gathering year, it is also seeking out ‘ancestors’ of previous oyster pearl participants to step up and represent their family Pearl origins of years ago.
According to the organisers, “bling with matching wellies” remains a compulsory accessory for the festival Wellie Hunt and hair dressing skills may or may not be handy at the Pearl Sheep Shearing display.
The closing date for entries to the Oyster Pearl 2013 competition is July 8. Application forms can be downloaded from www.carlingford.ie.
