Sinn Féin's Kevin Meenan has thanked his family, friends, campaign team, director of elections, and all who voted for him, after being elected to Dundalk South Local Electoral Area (LEA) after the 9th count.
Speaking to the Dundalk Democrat, Cllr Meenan said that it was “fantastic, it’s great to be returned back again, believe it or not it’s actually been ten years since I stood because I was co-opted [this time around].
“It’s good to be back, I forgot how torturous it is to go through a count.”
Cllr Meenan continued: “I’d like to thank my family and friends, my campaign team, my director of elections, they’ve all been outstanding as always, I’ve had the same team out canvassing for me.
“It was great to get back around the doors again as well.
“I thoroughly enjoyed it, it is torturous, it is tough, it is tiring, and we’ve made some new candidates too while losing others so it’s kind of bittersweet.”
Asked what he was hearing on the doors he said: “A lot of the local issues, housing, roads, safety measures or roads, all the usual stuff.
He added, “there was some mentions about immigration, but not as much.
“We expected to hear more but didn’t hear it as much as I thought we would.”
