A major checkpoint has been erected outside of Dundalk this morning.

Traffic travelling from the N1/M1 isbeing diverted from the motorway at Junction 18 Dundalk North/Carlingford to Major’s Hollow Roundabout where a multi-agency checkpoint is in place.

This is among of a number of checkpoints to have taken place in recent times involving Gardaí from Dundalk, officers from the National Bureau of Immigration and officials from the Department of Social Protection and Revenue.

The last operation in October saw a total of 26 people detained.

Motorists are advised that long tailbacks are in operation in the area with previous operations resulting in delays of up to an hour.
