Dundalk comedian Shinanne Higgins explores the seven deadly sins

Shinanne Higgins

Back in March we talked to Dundalk comedian Shinanne Higgins about her 7 Deadly Sins for Louth Life magazine.

Local comedian Shinanne Higgins, has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and has run the very successful Louth Laughs standup night in Dundalk. This August she’s taking two shows to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Her solo show "10 Things They Hate About Me" is returning to Fringe this year after a full sold out run last year.

LUST: Who or what do you find yourself lusting after today and why?

Keep your Gucci handbag... I want adventure! I am a travel addict, so I will lust after your holiday snaps on Insta. I’m just back from Tromso in northern Norway where I was husky sledding, snowshoeing and chasing the Northern Lights.

GREED: What should you be cutting down on (non-food or drink) and why?

If there was a gold medal for doing anything apart from what I’m supposed to be doing, I’d probably put off collecting it from the medal shop. My favourite way to procrastinate at the moment is playing Quordle, that’s Wordle for people with ADHD.

GLUTTONY: What one thing could you happily eat or drink until you burst, and why?

I’m going to be the most Irish person ever and say...SPUDS! We know the real reasons for the famine, but even if it was true that we only grew spuds, who’d blame us? Spuds were invented by the gods of deliciousness and delivered to the Irish people by our national saint, Sir Walter Raleigh.

SLOTH: What should you be putting your back into now and why?

This August I’m bringing two shows to Edinburgh Fringe Festival and co-running two others. I have a new show called “3 Bad Sisters”, with two other fantastic Irish female comedians; Aideen McQueen and Louise O’Toole.

WRATH: Who or what makes you angry and why?

I have all the patience in the world for people...but if you want to see the vein pop on my forehead or hear words usually used only by the surliest of sailors, just give me a deadline and a printer that doesn’t work.

ENVY: Who are you jealous of and why?

I’m not a jealous person. I do sometimes look at other women and wish I was skinnier... but then I remember that I could be skinny if I wanted. However, every day I CHOOSE  buttery spuds and having naps over going to the gym. Turns out, I don’t care enough about being skinny to get up at 6am to exercise!

PRIDE: What’s your proudest achievement and why?

I was a shy child. I hated speaking in class. I wouldn’t even ask to go to the toilet at school. My childhood self would not believe that I have become a person that has travelled and worked around the world or stands on a stage telling jokes.
