Councillor Sean Kelly raised the issue of new works on the Mount Avenue link road

Councillor Sean Kelly raised the issue of new works on the Mount Avenue link road at last weeks Dundalk MD meeting held in the town hall.

“The mind boggles how this has come about,” Councillor Kelly said. “We have just spent €7 million on a link road and closed it for the best part of a year and the road is not open for a year and the ESB have decided to go and dig up the road again and close it off for a number of weeks.

“I’m asking the council can we not come up with some form of communication with public utilities companies where we tell them what works we’re completing and they can see what works need to be done in the future and then come in at that point.

“It just seems to be a waste of public money.”

In response John O'Hagan, Senior Engineer for Louth County Council said that it was a defect being fixed and that there was no cost to the council as the contractor was covering the cost
