DUNDALK GOLF CLUB
There was a large crowd in attendance at the Dundalk Golf Club first tee on Sunday, March 1, as the 2026 Captains Leone Baillie and Michael O’Sullivan struck the traditional drives that formally mark the start of the golfing season.
They were joined by incoming Girls Captain Grace Cosgrove.
The Captains’ Drive In was preceded by a morning team competition and an afternoon scotch mixed foursomes with full time-sheets for all competitions.
The team competition was won by the quartet of Laurence O’Hanlon (7), Edward Lawrence (10), Ben O’Connor (10) and John McKeever (7), who shot an excellent 76pts for the 15 holes played.
The runners-up were the team of Eamonn McEneaney (7), Gerry Campbell (12), Eamonn Kelly (10) and Gerry Mulligan (5) who finished with 74pts.
The Scotch Mixed Foursomes competition was played over seven holes down the front and back nines and saw excellent scoring in windy but dry conditions.
The Front Nine competition was won by Sinead O’Callaghan & Johan Steenvorden, who had a nett score of 22 playing off a combined handicap of 11. That was two better than Kay O’Sullivan & Mark Baillie, who returned 24 nett off 14.
The Back Nine saw Laura Kilboy and Lewis Smith emerge as winners after shooting 22 nett off eight, with Mickey and Mags Coburn finishing second after shooting 22.8 nett off 6.2.
The Singles Stableford competition on February 21 and 22 was played over the front nine holes as golfers finally got back onto the course after the incessant rain over most of the month.
Best score of the weekend was the 24pts which Edward Lawrence (8) shot in winning Division 3, while Frank Byrne (6) had 22pts to claim Division 2.
Michael Coburn (4) shot 21pts to win Division 1, while Division 4 went to David Corrigan (18) with 21pts.
Saturday, February 21 and Sunday, February 22 – Nine Hole Singles Stableford - Division 1: Michael Coburn (4) 21pts. Division 2: Frank P Byrne (6) 22pts. Division 3: Edward Lawrence (8) 24pts. Division 4: David Corrigan (18) 21pts.
Sunday, March 1 – Captains’ Drive-In – 15 Hole Team Event – Winners: Laurence O’Hanlon (7), Edward Lawrence (10), Ben O’Connor (10) and John McKeever (7) 76pts. Runners-Up: Eamonn McEneaney (7), Gerry Campbell (12, Eamonn Kelly (10) and Gerry Mulligan (5) 74pts.
