Former Dundalk FC player Seán Sheehy, a key member of the club’s 1975/76 League of Ireland-winning team, has passed away.
Sheehy made 134 appearances for Dundalk over two spells, scoring 20 goals and winning several trophies, including the League of Ireland title, the Shield in 1971/72, and two Leinster Senior Cups.

He joined Dundalk in 1970 from St Joseph’s Sallynoggin and made his debut against Shamrock Rovers that summer.
Sheehy spent time in England and Scotland with Preston North End and Dundee United, before returning to Ireland to win a league title with Bohemians in 1974/75.
He rejoined Dundalk in 1975 and was part of the team that helped secure the league title after more than a decade.
In total, Sheehy scored 39 goals in 200 League of Ireland games across four clubs. He also represented Ireland at youth and U23 level.
