Sunday, the 18th of May, was a historic occasion for Muirhevnamor FC. After 49 years in existence, the club made a collective decision to name their pitch. Going forward, their Dundalk grounds will be known as Gill's Park.

Muirhevnamor estate itself is celebrating its 50th anniversary, and for 49 years, the heartbeat of the estate has always been its highly successful football club.

The club was established in 1976, and one of the founding members was Pat Gill. Pats' son Martin, otherwise known as Gillser, was a part of that very first team as a player.

From day one, Gillser was a part of the club in every capacity. Player, coach, manager,  committee member, and chairperson. Gillser and his family's presence within the club has been a constant year in and year out.

This included his sons, Martin, Paddy, Jason, and Mark, taking up various roles over the years within the club.

Gillser's pride and joy was always in maintaining the club's pitch and grounds. The club boasts one of the finest playing surfaces in Louth.

This is not something that can be achieved overnight. It requires dedication, patience, and tender loving care. All attributes that Martin possessed and brought to the club day in and day out.

Muirhevnamor FC feels it is a fitting tribute to name their pitch after Martin and the Gill family.

To honour the occasion and Martin's unfortunate sudden passing in December 2024, the newly named Gill Park hosted an in-house match between the club's current U18s against Muirhevnamor Winter League selection.

The Winter League select team consisted of players who had played for Gillser over the years. It was a who's who of the club's legendary players taking part on the day.

For decades, Muirhevnamor FC dominated the winter league with Martin at the helm. It was an amazing spectacle and a day that will be remembered by everyone in attendance.

The club would like to thank Martin's beloved wife, Joanie, for sharing Gillser with us all these years. As the old saying goes, behind every great man is a great woman.

Muirhevnamor FC wishes to thank you, Gillser, and the entire Gill family for your contributions to the club.
