Dundalk athlete Kate O’Connor is set to take on Europe’s best next month as she looks to win her first senior championship medal for Ireland at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.

O’Connor will be competing in the pentathlon and enters the competition in flying form after smashing the national record with a superb 4,683 points in Estonia earlier this month.

That score puts her second in Europe heading into the championships and makes her a serious contender for the podium.

Athletics Ireland has announced a strong squad for the event, which runs from 6th - 9th  March and features several Olympians including Sharlene Mawdsley (400m), Sarah Healy (3000m), and Sarah Lavin (60m hurdles).
