The two Gardai were assaulted by a man in Dundalk Garda Station car park

Two Gardaí were injured following an assault outside Dundalk Garda Station on Tuesday morning, with both currently remaining off duty as investigations continue.

According to An Garda Síochána, an off-duty male Garda was assaulted by a man in the station car park at approximately 7am on Tuesday, June 30.

A second Garda was subsequently assaulted while attempting to arrest the man, who is understood to be in his 20s.

Gardaí confirmed that the incidents remain under investigation.

Both members received medical treatment and welfare supports have been made available to the injured Gardaí through local Garda management.

In a statement, the Garda Representative Association (GRA) condemned the attack, describing it as another example of violence faced by frontline members.

"Another day, and sadly another attack on Gardaí simply serving their local community," the association said.

The GRA said the two Gardaí suffered injuries during what it described as an "unprovoked violent attack" outside Dundalk Garda Station at around 7am.

"There is never an excuse for attacks on our members. The job is difficult enough," the association added.
