A Dundalk driver has been caught travelling at 100km/h in a 60km/h zone on the Inner Relief Road, claiming they were “just trying to outrun the rattling noise in the back” of their van.
Gardaí have warned that no excuse can justify speeding and putting other road users at risk.
“Whatever your excuse is, it doesn’t outweigh the importance of keeping everyone else on the road safe,” a spokesperson said.
The driver is now facing prosecution for the offence.
