A motorist who was charged with careless driving after he was involved in a two vehicle collision, was returning to his home after a school run, his solicitor told Dundalk District Court last week.

Richard Grootenboer (59) of Maple Close, Avenue Road, Dundalk pleaded guilty to committing the offence on December 5th 2024.

The court heard the other motorist was travelling on the Avenue Road towards the town centre when the defendant who was travelling in the opposite direction crossed to turn into his estate.

The other driver sustained four factures to his elbow and was off work for some time.

Mr Grootenboer had no previous convictions and his solicitor explained that his client was returning after dropping children to school and described it as a genuine accident.

Judge Nicola Andrews imposed a fine of €101.
