A solicitor has told Dundalk district court that a defendant who fraudulently obtained €2,800 in Pandemic Unemployment Payments has paid back the amount in full.

Anjola Shonukan (28) of Claddagh Park, Tom Bellew Avenue, Dundalk was before the court charged with transferring, handling, possessing or acquiring €2,800 that was the proceeds of crime, that was credited to his Revolut account.

The Defence solicitor said his client had developed a drug problem when he lived in Letterkenny and had lost his job when he saw an ad on Snapchat for the Covid payment and "it was too good to be true".
