Gardaí from the Dundalk Roads Policing Unit intercepted several high-speed drivers on the M1 motorway last week, including two motorists who were caught racing each other at dangerously high speeds.

According to Gardaí, the two drivers, both in red vehicles, were detected travelling at 148km/h while driving aggressively and attempting to race one another. Officers from the Roads Policing Unit swiftly intervened, bringing the incident to a halt. Both individuals are now facing prosecution.

Later that evening, another motorist was clocked travelling at 173km/h on the motorway. That driver was also stopped and will be prosecuted for excessive speed.

In a social media post highlighting the detections, Gardaí urged the public not to treat public roads as racetracks.
