Motorist caught driving at 170km/h on M1 in Louth to face prosecution

A driver caught speeding at a dangerous 171km/h on the M1 motorway is now facing prosecution, according to Gardaí in Louth.

The motorist was stopped on Sunday by Dundalk Roads Policing Unit after being detected travelling well over the 120km/h motorway speed limit. Gardaí described the driving as "excessive and reckless."

In a statement released on social media, Gardaí warned of the risks associated with such behaviour:

“Dundalk Roads Policing Unit stopped the driver of this car for excessive and reckless speed today on the M1 motorway. Driver will now be prosecuted for their actions. Everyone needs to take responsibility for their driver behaviour and to be mindful for the safety of all other road users collectively.”
