Community service for man who attacked a stranger in a Dundalk takeaway

A 24-year-old man who admitted being involved in an unprovoked attack on a stranger, was last week sentenced at Dundalk District Court to perform community service.

Eoin Johnson of Balregan, Kilcurry, Dundalk had previously been told to come back with  €2,000 compensation for his victim.

He had pleaded guilty to assault causing harm at Mizzoni Pizza, Park Street, Dundalk, on June 17th last year.

On Wednesday December 18th, Judge Stephanie Coggan heard that the victim told gardaí he had been punched and kicked by an unknown man.

He suffered bruising to his left arm and leg and sustained and was treated for lumps to the back of his head and a lump over the left eye.

Mr Johnson was identified from a video clip filmed by a passerby.

After hearing the €2,000 had been paid, Judge Coggans imposed 240 hours community service in lieu of a four month sentence.
