A motorist who struck a pedestrian in Dundalk fined for careless driving

The court heard gardai who responded to a report of a road traffic collision found a pedestrian lying on the ground surrounded by bystanders.

A 44 year old man whose car struck a pedestrian on Roden Place was fined €250 for careless driving at Dundalk district court last week.

Ahmad Mukhdar with an address at Priorland Grove, Dundalk was initially summoned for dangerous driving but Court Presenter Sgt. Letitia McConnell explained that was an administrative error.

The court heard gardai who responded to a report of a road traffic collision on December 21st 2022 found a pedestrian lying on the ground surrounded by bystanders.

A Toyota Yaris driven by the defendant had struck the female and dashcam footage showed the defendant was driving at a speed that did not allow him to brake in time to avoid the collision.

The Defence solicitor described it as a momentary lapse of concentration by the father of three who had recently opened a phone repair business.
