Dundalk man who illegally dumped rubbish avoids litter conviction

A 63 year old man who illegally dumped a bag of rubbish in Blackrock, has avoided a litter conviction at Dundalk District Court after he made a donation to the court poor box.

The court heard John Whearty with an address at Barton Park, Dundalk discarded the white bag from the drivers side of a car on March 1st 2021.

The Defence solicitor told the court his client lives an otherwise blameless life and used to work as a taxi driver.

He added the incident happened during the Covid pandemic, when Mr. Whearty could not see his partner who lives in Dublin and described it as “a moment of madness”.

Judge Eirinn McKiernan struck out the summons and directed that the €200 handed into court go to the Turas counselling service.
