Louth County Council has commissioned a documentary charting the delivery of the Narrow Water Bridge in Omeath

Louth County Council has commissioned a documentary charting the delivery of the Narrow Water Bridge, one of the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the region.

Produced by Another Avenue, the film will create a lasting visual record of the bridge’s development, capturing its engineering, community and cross-border significance from the early works through to completion.

Commissioned as part of the project’s Percentage for Art Programme, it will document not only the construction and installation of the landmark structure, but also the history of Carlingford Lough, the communities connected by the crossing and the wider economic, tourism and social benefits it is expected to bring to the region.

Filming has already taken place at the Narrow Water Bridge site and in Ghent, Belgium, where the production team captured the fabrication process, loading and departure of the bridge and its arrival in Ireland.

The completed production will comprise a 45-minute documentary, supported by timelapse footage, and will be preceded by a series of short-form digital content assets that will also be released through Louth County Council’s website and social media channels.

David Jones, Director of Services, Major Capital Projects and Infrastructure Delivery, Louth County Council, said: “The Narrow Water Bridge is a once-in-a-generation infrastructure project, and creating a permanent record of its development will allow generations to come an opportunity to look back on this historic chapter in the region’s story.

“This documentary will capture the expertise, innovation and collaboration involved in delivering the bridge, while also recording the experiences of the communities connected by it.

“Even at this early stage, Another Avenue has demonstrated great dedication and professionalism, and the quality of the material produced to date has been exceptional, and we look forward to working with the team as they continue to document the project’s key milestones.”

Established in 2003, Another Avenue is an award-winning independent Irish production company specialising in factual television, documentaries and digital content. Previous RTE productions include Book of the Year, Chasing Stars, Taste Like Home, Irish Book Awards and Jack L’s 27 Club.

Mark Wooderson, Director, Another Avenue, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with Louth County Council and the Narrow Water Bridge project team on this important documentary project. The construction of Narrow Water Bridge represents a significant milestone for the region, and we are proud to play a part in documenting its journey.”

Sharyn Mitchell, Producer, Another Avenue, added: “For us, this project is about much more than the construction of a bridge. It is an opportunity to capture a unique moment in the history of the area, exploring its rich heritage, the stories that have shaped its communities, and the hopes and aspirations of the people who live on both sides of the crossing.”
