It’s full steam ahead for the 2nd annual Dunleer Athletic Club Four Mile Road Race which will be held on Sunday August 12 at 3pm.
This event has an Athletics Ireland permit and will be held once again in memory of two extraordinary men, Seán Carrie and Ollie Brennan, who served as Dunleer AC committee members and supported athletics for many years.
Dunleer AC is very proud to dedicate these two races, senior men and senior ladies, to these two great men, and the Club looks forward to welcoming runners, joggers and walkers to Dunleer for the race on August 12 at 3pm in the village.
Dunleer AC Summer Camp Success

A great week of fun and games was had by all and organiser Jacqueline Matthews, herself a level two athletics coach was very pleased with the project and is now taking bookings by text (087 6482373) for week two on August 7-9 again at Scoil Uí Mhuirí from 10.30am–1.30 pm.
National Juvenile Track and Field Championships
Day one of the Championships saw high jump, ball throw and javelin action for the Dunleer AC athletes.
Ronan Sands participated in the boys under 12 ball throw competition and was very pleased with his best throw of 31.88 metres and 9th place in this National event.
Next to compete was Ciara Matthews in the girls under 12 high jump competition, and Ciara was thrilled to be competing against Sophie O’Sullivan from Ballymore Cobh AC, daughter of the more famous Sonia O’Sullivan.
Unfazed by the situation, Ciara had a super series of jumps and made it through the rounds, to finish in a well deserved 4thplace, with a 1.25m personal best jump. The winner incidentally on 1.35m was Sophie O’Sullivan.
Conor Faulkner, silver medallist in the boys under 18 javelin event at Leinster was also in good form at the National Championships with a series of 40 metre plus throws.
His best throw of 42.76 earned him 8th place in the competition. In the boys under 15 equivalent Conor Kirwan had a best throw of 29.44 metres to give him a 7th place finish.
Day two was another great day for Dunleer AC with Liam Connaughton, the reigning Leinster U13 javelin champion and championship best record holder winning a silver medal at the national event.
Others to do very well were Emma Cheshire who came 5th in the javelin at under 13 and joint 6th in the high jump, Garry Campbell who came 6th in the 800m under 16.
