Dunleer AC had ten teams of four athletes competing at the Leinster teams competition last weekend with the club returning with a set of team gold for the U12 boys and bronze for the boys U9, plus many great individual performances along the way.
A fantastic achievement for these young athletes as they all competed at sprinting, hurdling, jumping and throwing events to gain valuable points for their teams.
Next Sunday the boys and girls U9, 10, 11 and 12 will be in action in the pairs and U12 Championships in Tullamore and the Dunleer AC squad will once more be competing in a range of events, including, hurdles, sprints, high jump, long jump, shot putt, ball throw, middle distance running and javelin.
Dunleer AC boys U11 Reece Reilly and Tom Mathews will be competing for Louth in the Inter County relay team.
Training continues at Scoil Uí Mhuirí and at the track in Dunleer. Summer camp details to be announced soon.
At the Patrick Bell Memorial 5km Road Race on Sunday last in Bohermeen, Dunleer AC’s Martin Quinn was a popular winner in 15.11. Three seconds clear of seconnd placed Gary Hanlon in 15.14 and third placed Stephen Kerr from Armagh AC in 15.22.
Martin’s Clubmate Carl Dunne continued his climb up the ranks of senior racing with a 10th place finish in a very respectable 16.01, with Eugene Burns 41st placing in 17.30, with Pat Fitzpatrick and Paddy Connolly finishing close together in 18.42 and 18.51, and team-mates Micheál Mulligan (19.09), John Holmes (19.22) and Bob Doheny 23.13.
Karen Costello was the first Dunleer AC lady home in 20.33, and 14th senior lady, with Sandra Doheny running a great 21.37, ahead of team-mates Nicola Courtney in 23.53, Joan Neary in 24.40 and Sandra O Rourke in 26.22.
A great day for the Dunleer AC ladies, and another great day for Martin Quinn as he continues his winning streak this summer, a tribute to his hard work and dedication to training.
