And so we come to the final day of competition in Rome and after winning their heat in clocking the second-fastest time in history by an Irish quartet, the women's 4x400m relay team now firmly have their sights on gold.
Having had our greatest team performance at the European Athletics Championships in history, four of Ireland's finest athletes will once more take to the track, in an attempt to secure yet another first-place finish, following on from the success of the mixed relay team and 1500m winner Ciara Mageean.
Ireland clocked the fastest qualifying time of 3:24.81, with Tipperary athlete Mawdsley running only hours after competing in the 400m individual, called into action again after Kelly McGrory picked up a minor injury in warmup.
When is the 4X400m final?
The final takes place at 8.06pm Irish time and will see Rhasidat Adeleke back involved, taking the place of Lauren Cadden. Sophie Becker will lead the team off, handing over to Adeleke, with Phil Healy waiting on taking the third leg and Mawdsley on anchor.
In the men's 10,000m final at 8.44pm, Ireland will have five competitors in action - Brian Fay, Efrem Gidey, Peter Lynch, Cormac Dalton and Barry Keane.
And then at 9.26pm, Dublin runner Andrew Coscoran will compete in the 1,500m final.
Where can I watch it?
The final will be aired as part of athletics coverage on RTÉ 2, as well as RTÉ Player.
European Athletics will also be live streaming all the action from Rome via the Eurovision Sport website. Click HERE for the Eurovision Sport schedule.
Some sports bars and pubs are expected to air RTÉ's live coverage, with Sharlene Mawdsley's hometown club of Newtown AC revealing on Facebook that RTÉ News will be filming the live reactions of her friends and family in O'Sullivan's in the Freigh.
How is the team expected to perform?
After clocking the fastest heat time, and after Adeleke and Mawdsley's phenomenal performances across the mixed relay and individual 400m, Ireland are looking at another genuine chance at gold. The competition will be fierce however, with world-renowned Dutch athlete Femke Bol also taking to the track for the final.
