Talented band formed by Louth teenagers gear up to release EP

Members Dylan Grimes, Tom Cassidy, San Mullinger and Donal O’Donovan play primarily alternative rock and grunge with a hint of punk thrown in

A four-piece band, made up of extremely talented teenagers from Louth, is preparing to release a single in the coming days from their highly-anticipated, first-ever EP.

Focal Point, based in Collon, was only formed last November and the band are already taking the county by storm.

Consisting of members Dylan Grimes (15), Tom Cassidy (16), San Mullinger (16) and Donal O’Donovan (16), together, they play primarily alternative rock and grunge with a hint of punk thrown in.

Tom, San and Donal are Transition Year pupils at Ardee Community School and through doing extracurricular music events within the institution, discovered third year student Dylan Grimes’ raw talent as both a vocalist and performer.

Focal Point came to fruition in a natural way after the teenagers took to the stage at their school’s talent show which, they say, “went so well for us that we decided to form a band.”

Dylan’s role is lead vocals while Donal does backing for him and plays drums. Tom is a guitar extraordinaire while San plays bass.

Following the talent show, the group said, “Immediately the vision became clear that we wanted to put out a small collection of songs we had written, self-recorded and independently-produced together over the span of 4 months.”

Focal Point rolled all their influences into one concoction of a youthful, alternative sound. The result? their upcoming EP ‘Forest’ with their first original single debuting on Friday, February 20, after months of hard work.
