Louth gym RMG Fitness leads the way in reformer Pilates and wellness

RMG Fitness founder Ronan McGahan

Back in February we talked to RMG Fitness founder Ronan McGahan about his Ardee business which has been a pillar of fitness and wellness in the area for over a decade.

Ronan, who has 25 years of experience in the fitness industry, the gym specialises in a wide range of classes and training options, with a standout offering in its reformer Pilates sessions.

While RMG Fitness provides traditional fitness options such as spinning classes, and box-fit classes, reformer Pilates has become a core part of their services.

“Reformer Pilates is an incredible way to build strength, improve flexibility, and support rehabilitation,” explains Ronan. The technique, which involves the use of a specialised machine with pulleys, straps, and a foot bar, focuses on the core, lower back, and overall mobility.

The benefits of reformer Pilates go beyond general fitness, making it ideal for people with joint or mobility issues. “There’s less impact on the joints, so it’s suitable for older people and if you’re recovering from injuries,” says Ronan, noting that their oldest client is 75.

For athletes, reformer Pilates has long been a staple in strength and conditioning programs. “In places like Australia or America or even England, with a sports team, like a professional sports club, you would be using the reform as kind of part of your strength conditioning program, and using prehab and rehab for athletes coming back,” Ronan adds.

RMG Fitness was one of the first gyms in County Louth to embrace reformer Pilates, making it a unique draw for the local fitness community. While other studios are now beginning to offer similar services, RMG’s long-standing expertise, led by reformer Pilates specialist Siobhan Rogers, sets it apart. “Siobhan is the reformer Pilates guru in this place,” Ronan explains.

Beyond the technical offerings, Ronan reflects on the personal connections he’s built over the years. [The best part of running the gym is] meeting people on a daily basis. A do a lot of personal training. I teach a lot of fitness classes, and I also do physiotherapy as well, so helping people is a big thing.”
