Status yellow weather warning will remain valid until 8pm this Monday

Met Éireann is urging caution over the coming hours after it issued a status yellow thunderstorm warning for five counties across the Mid-West and midlands.

The weather warning, issued just after 1pm this Monday, took immediate effect and will remain valid until 8pm. The warning applies to counties Limerick, Clare, Tipperary, Laois and Offaly.

The forecaster says there will be "Scattered thunderstorms at times" and that potential impacts include "lightning and spot flooding" in places.

In its latest forecast, Met Eireann says any showers will be heavy where they occur and that temperatures this Monday afternoon will range from 16 degrees on the east coast to 22 in the west.

Most places will become dry this Monday night, with patchy cloud and clear breaks, with just the odd shower possible overnight.

Motorists are being urged to exercise caution and to slow down if travelling during any heavy downpours.

According to Met Éireann, it will be largely dry again on Tuesday with variable cloud and sunshine to begin the day. However, showers will develop as the morning progresses, some of them heavy with spot flooding and isolated thunderstorms possible.
