League Champions Muirhevnamor FC maintained their four point lead over Shamrocks, who received a walk-over from Dundalk Inter, with a nail biting victory over stablemates Muirhevnamor Youths last Tuesday.

This was a game of two halves, the first dominated by Muirhevnamor FC thanks to a Mickey O’Kane hat-trick and a goal from Gary Clarke, and the second taken by the scruff of the neck by the Youths, who just fell short once again in this club derby.

O’Kane struck as early as the 2nd minute with a soft goal to put Muirhevnamor FC in front.

Shortly after a free kick from Andy Gray took a wicked deflection past the helpless Jason McConville to level the score.

A simple tap-in on 20 minutes by O’Kane restored his side’s lead. Ten minutes later he completed his hat-trick.

Just before the break Gary Clarke’s low shot gave Padraig McGuinness no chance in the Youths nets to send Muirhevnamor FC in with a 4-1 lead.

An injury to Gary Clarke midway through the second half left the league leaders with only ten men and the Youths took full advantage of their numerical strength to stage a rousing fightback.

Padraig Smith made it 4-2 with a low drive on 75 minutes. A Daniel Berry cross was headed brilliantly to the net by Damian Bailey to leave only a goal between the teams with just ten minutes left to play.

It was backs to the wall stuff from Muirhevnamor FC but they hung on to gain three very important points.
