St Gerard’s AC were represented by 27 young athletes over the three days of the Louth Championships with no less than eight making their competitive debut.
The Manchester Marathon on Sunday last saw Maurice McMahon conquering the 26.2 distance in a new personal best time of 2 hours 43.04 minutes.
The North Leinster Schools’ Championships were staged on Wednesday and Friday last week at the Morton Stadium in Santry, Dublin, and athletes from St Peter’s AC were well to the fore. Representing their secondary schools, they won a most impressive total of nine gold, one silver and four bronze medals.
The second running of the Patsy Kelly 5k Road Race took place on Saturday last when over 550 walkers, joggers and runners took to the streets of Dundalk to remember the former North East Runners and Clan na Gael member.
Peadar’s Golf Society held a recent outing to Dundalk Golf Club which was kindly sponsored by Doohan Financial Planning. There was a good turnout in excellent conditions.
Just over two weeks ago Tianlang Guan introduced himself to the golfing world at the US Masters in Augusta. Just another up-and-coming Asian golfer he was not though.
The Emmetts deserved their victory on Sunday in Kilkerley when they held on against an O’Connell’s team that committed footballing suicide by having two men sent off in the space of three minutes in the second half.
Joan Corrigan emerged the overall winner of the Rawson Cup stroke play competition played on Saturday April 13 and Tuesday April 16 at Dundalk Ladies Golf Club. This competition was also a Golfer of the Year and Medal qualifier.
The Louth Cycling team had their final warm up before the An Post Rás, which starts May 19 and runs for eight days, covering over 1,500km.
The 2013 FPM Accountants Summer Cycling League continued last week in its new format of the league being split in two and the winner being decided come September by whom has the most points, irrespective of which league they rode in.
While the weather may say otherwise it is now the summer and with that comenced the 2013 FPM Accountants Summer Cycling League.
Cuchulainn Cycling Club’s Sé Weston was successful at the recent IVCA race in Batterstown, Co Meath. The race was a handicapped affair, held over 80km with Martin Gray, Jimmy Flynn and Ray Fedigan all racing alongside Sé.
