Points more important than personal glory for Paddy
CENTURY man Paddy Keenan crowned his 100th game in Louth colours with a fantastic individual performance against Westmeath at Haggardstown on Sunday afternoon.
The St Patrick’s midfielder was influential throughout the game and provided four points in the process but speaking afterwards, Keenan was predictably modest about his own personal achievement.
“As long as we win it doesn’t really matter”, was his simple response to reaching the century mark for county.
He also alluded to the idea that Louth are ‘cannon fodder’ for relegation.
“If you read any papers or listen to any radio it’s us and Westmeath as favourites for the drop. We’re well aware of what people think of us but all we can do is beat the team in front of us.
“The Westmeath game is over and we’ve Galway away next week, which is going to be a step up. We’re not going out to get relegated. We’re going out to win every game. You can’t fear anybody and hopefully we’ll show that next week.”
Keenan also told the Dundalk Democrat that his hamstring twinge didn’t bother him during the match and he was able to train throughout the week leading up to the Division 2 opener.
The Pat’s man said he had been “working away on it throughout the week and was just happy enough to get through the game” with no problems.
