Darver project gets a major boost from the Louth GAA Supporters' Club

Louth's players have been handed a significant boost for the future as the Louth GAA Supporters' Club have donated a huge sum to the Darve Project.

The project, a huge €6,000,000 plus development, has received a massive boost in the form of a €25,000 from the supporters' club which is specifically for the project's gymnasium.

Jimmy Myers, Chairman of the Supporters Club', states that it is just another example of the financial support they give to all areas of the Gaelic Athletic Association in the county.

Jimmy added: "But it is more than that and it goes beyond just simple support. This money, which the supporters' club have collected from the Gaels in Louth, is going to fully equip the gymnasium and this gymnasium alongside all the other state of the art facilities in the Darver Activity Centre will be of enormous benefit to all units of the GAA and the community groups who will use it.

"All Louth County panels, football hurling, camogie, ladies football, development teams and under age teams will be delighted with it and no longer will Louth GAA have to pay big money to rent gym facilities and it also has the potential to generate revenue when rented to club units and other organisations."

In keeping with Darver's policy of inclusion it will be available to community groups ensuring that it will be in use practically all day every day.

Jimmy mentioned that the sum is just part of a number of sums that they have given in the last twelve months. They gave €8,000 to finance training gear for the Louth Senior Football team, €3,500 for a training weekend for the hurlers, a contribution of €1,000 to the Minor Football Team and €3,000 plus to the Ladies Football Team when they had to go to London the previous year.

Prior to this generous donation the Supporters Club have given a total of €40,000 to the Darver project.

They meet on October 6 in Darver and their Annual Meeting is the first week in November. They hope to increase their membership to raise even more money for all units of the GAA in Louth. They deserve support as they embark on their 20th year in 2011. Long may they continue with the good work.
