Tallanstown Tidy Towns.

With the Tidy Towns season in full swing many villages and towns around County Louth are looking very well and are a credit to all the voluntary workers from the various communities who give so much of their free time in pursuit of making their own locations pleasant places to live.

Tallanstown village has completed all their proposed projects for this year and are hoping that their work will impress the Tidy Towns judges when they visit to adjudicate this year.

Our thanks goes to Tommy Reilly and his team of Fas workers, who contribute to the upkeep of the village, to our volunteer litter patrollers who will be out every day over the summer to keep Tallanstown litter free, you can play your part by picking up any litter that might find its way on to our streets.

The team of planters who were out from early morning working hard to plant flowers in all the housing estates and the village centre. It’s great to see this team out every year without fail. Residents can play their part by watering these plants in their area.

To Brendan Woods, Seamie Daly and not forgetting ‘Big Willie’ for transporting our hanging baskets to the village, each year they make the job look easy but with so many it’s never an easy task.

Finally we would like to welcome Gerry Murray our new Tus worker on to the team, his help will be gratefully appreciated over the coming months.

Irish Water Safety.

With the beautiful weather we are currently experiencing in Ireland it relevant to mention that extreme caution is necessary when around water.

Did you know that on average 140 people drown in Ireland each year? Most of these tragic deaths happen inland, in rivers and lakes, on farms and in and around homes and these accidents are preventable.

A number of factors contribute to drowning: an analysis of drowning’s recorded by Irish Water Safety nationwide found that alcohol consumption was a contributory factor in a number of these cases, so the message to the public is never ever drink and dive or swim or sail. Stay safe around water.
