Kevin. ON Sunday June 2nd Kevin Lynch of Aclint celebrated hi 100th birthday in the Louth County Hospital, Dundalk. Kevin was born just as great Irish was being made with Jim Larkin led the workers of Dublin in the great lock-out of 1913. He lived through the Easter rising of 1916, the War of Independence, two world wars and vast changes in technology. It was for his vast knowledge of local history and archaeology that I came to be friends with him and his brother Mike who sadly died at 98 just a month ago. How many evenings have I spent in their company listening to and debating with these two lovely gentle men the Burning of Wildgoose Lodge, back to the meeting of O’Neill and Essex at the Ford of Aclint in 1599 and everything in between. Indeed we often attended outings and lectures of the County Louth Historical and Archaeological Society together. It is great to see this fine man receiving the Presidents letter of congratulations and to know that he is still able to recall quite a lot of historical happenings in his long life.
