North East Cycle
The cycling community of Carrickmacross has joined forces with Carrickmacross Lions Club to organize this year’s challenge which will take place Sunday 5th May 2013. The event will cater for all cyclists, with the 100km Drumlin route extending through parts of Cavan and mid Monaghan and the 30km Oriel route will have the picturesque village of Tallanstown as its destination.
The Challenge will appeal to both established cyclists throughout the North East and also to people who are thinking of taking up cycling for the first time. Cycling is growing in popularity and the Oriel Route will be very manageable for people who start a simple eight week training plan, which will be published in the Northern Standard and on the Carrickmacross Lion’s website at www.carrickmacrosslionsclub.com
Litter Patrollers 2013
Last year a leading factor in our winning the Louth County Council litter league was the fact that the village was practically litter free during all adjudication’s. A major factor in this success was the litter roster involving a large number of community volunteers who agreed to pick up litter every third weekend. This year we are hoping to add to our volunteer numbers. If you are interested in joining the litter patrol and we are particularly interested in younger members of our community, please contact Anne Sheridan who organises the rota or any member of the Tidy Towns committee.
You will be most welcome if you agree to help and your efforts will be appreciated as we battle to keep Tallanstown free from litter.
Notices for the Glydeside section in the Dundalk Democrat should be sent directly to Anne on 086 0805698 or by e-mail before Thursday at 10.00am. To be published in the following week’s Democrat.
www.tallanstown.com our community web site is proving to be a popular base for locals and people living abroad to keep in touch with home and if you have any information which would add to any of the sections particularly historical pieces, famous people from the area, your sporting club, your business would be greatly appreciated us.
