On behalf of the Irish Cancer society we would like to thank everyone who supported Daffodil Day. Especially those volunteers who braved the elements and stood in the worst weather in the time daffodil day started. It was very kind of those warriors who stood for two or more hours collecting. All the money raised goes towards the daffodil nurses who provide night nursing for terminal patients and to cancer nurse specialists. Thank you to all who helped and donated your support is really appreciated.

North East Cycle
The cycling community of Carrickmacross has joined forces with Carrickmacross Lions Club to organize this year’s challenge which will take place Sunday 5th May 2013. The event will cater for all cyclists, with the 100km Drumlin route extending through parts of Cavan and mid Monaghan and the 30km Oriel route will have the picturesque village of Tallanstown as its destination.
The Challenge will appeal to both established cyclists throughout the North East and also to people who are thinking of taking up cycling for the first time. Cycling is growing in popularity and the Oriel Route will be very manageable for people who start a simple eight week training plan, which will be published in the Northern Standard and on the Carrickmacross Lion’s website at www.carrickmacrosslionsclub.com
Baile Talun U12s had their second outing of the 2013 season on Friday April 19th when they hosted a very strong St Brides Team in Tallanstown.
This game was quite a one sided affair as the St Brides lads were that bit older and stronger and therefore dominated the game for long periods. Most of the Baile Talun lads will be U12 next year again and will learn from games like these. Nevertheless to the lad’s credit they kept plugging away and still managed to notch up 2-6 for their efforts. Those who tried really hard and set an example for everyone else were Dylan Kearney, Dwayne Markey, Kirk Rahill, Finn Duffy and Mark Hughes.
Team on the Night was: Finn Duffy, Dwayne Markey, Niall Sheenan, TJ Agnew, Ben English, Oisin Englishbee, Liam Mohan, Kirk Rahill, Dylan Kearney, Odhran Kelly, Daniel Murray, Gavin Gilmore, Niall Sheenan, Matthew Mc Connon, Darren Hillard, Mark Hughes.
Training continues every Monday evening at 6.30 for U11s and 12s. and every Friday evening at 6.30 for U7s, 8s, 9s and 10s. Newcomers always welcome.
Fr Laurence Taaffe served in the parish of Tallanstown from 1888 to 1901. Would anyone possibly have a photograph, maybe a wedding or family gathering? If so, please contact John on 086 8346433.
