Baile Talun
The under 12 team had their first outing of the 2013 season on Friday April 5th when they visited Clan Na Gael in Dundalk. A very close and competitive game was enjoyed by all involved.
The home team had the larger squad but that didn’t deter the Baile Talun Lads from competing for everything throughout the match. Finn Duffy and Niall Sheenan had the upper hand for long periods of the game and covered every blade of grass on the field. TJ Agnew showed great strength and composure and a fearless attitude and was ably assisted by the Intelligence and craftiness of players like Daniel Murray and Kirk Rahill. Indeed all 11 players can be proud of their performances and can look forward to a good season ahead. Baile Talun held a tight 2 point lead at the break but the clans came out fighting in the second half and just pipped the Baile Talun lads at the finish to win by one point. Team on the Night Finn Duffy, Dwayne Markey, Niall Sheenan, TJ Agnew, Ben English, Oisin Englishbee, Liam Mohan, Kirk Rahill, Dylan Kearney, Odhran Kelly, Daniel Murray.
North East Cycle Challenge 2013
The cycling community of Carrickmacross has joined forces with Carrickmacross Lions Club to organize this year’s challenge which will take place Sunday 5th May 2013. The event will cater for all cyclists, with the 100km Drumlin route extending through parts of Cavan and mid Monaghan and the 30km Oriel route will have the picturesque village of Tallanstown as its destination.
The Challenge will appeal to both established cyclists throughout the North East and also to people who are thinking of taking up cycling for the first time. Cycling is growing in popularity and the Oriel Route will be very manageable for people who start a simple eight week training plan, which will be published in the Northern Standard and on the Carrickmacross Lion’s website at www.carrickmacrosslionsclub.com
