Diving is diving
There’s been a bit of a furore this weekend over my old friend, Luis. Did he dive or didn’t he? The people who felt it was a penalty have attempted to justify their claim due to ‘contact made’.

There’s been a bit of a furore this weekend over my old friend, Luis. Did he dive or didn’t he? The people who felt it was a penalty have attempted to justify their claim due to ‘contact made’.

When is everyone going to wake up and realise that just because there’s contact does not mean it’s a penalty. In terms of the incident Anfield on Saturday evening, Suarez initiated whatever minimal contact there was between Brad Guzan and himself by throwing his leg into the keeper, then flung himself to the ground afterwards to make it much worse than it was. He’s suckered the referee – plain and simple.

Brendan Rodgers described it after the game as “a Uruguayan penalty”. No Brendan, it’s a dive. Referees have a hard enough job as it is these days without players trying to con them into giving soft penalties. Retrospective bans, please, FA.
