EIGHT boys from Dundalk will help Team Ireland U18s compete for glory in Division 111 of the Ice Hockey World Championships in Izmit, Turkey next February.

Not only do the Dundalk boys make up almost half the squad, but it also contains three members of the same family, brothers Ryan and Shane Donnelly and 1st cousin Jordan Donnelly.

The rest of the Dundalk contingent are Jack McGailey, Sean Coleman, Pauric Tuite, Christian McEvoy and Eoghan Lafferty.

Each of the boys started playing ice hockey at the now defunct Dundalk Ice Dome but since its closure they have had to pick up ice time in Belfast which involves a lot of travelling for the boys and their parents. However such is their desire to represent their country that the late nights and early mornings will continue until next February.

The boys and their families will be undertaking a series of fundraising events over the coming months to help offset the cost of the trip and would welcome any local businesses who would like to make a donation to help the boys on their way to Turkey. Contact details dundalkice18@gmail.com
