Carrick girl wins kickboxing title

Sarah O'Brien from Carrickclaimed the prestigious W.A.K.O. Full Contact World Title when she beat Christina Ruiz of Portugal by unanimous decision in the final of the Junior World Championships.

The championships took place in City West Convention Centre, Dublin last week.

Over 1700 fighters from 48 countries participated in the 2016 W.A.K.O. Junior World Championships which Sarah qualified for earlier this year when she won both Junior & Senior Irish Championships. Sarah has trained for over 10 years at Carrickmacross Kickboxing Club and this has been a particularly good year for her as she also won the Irish Open Full Contact Title in March.

Sarah got a warm welcome from the younger Club members when she came back with her Gold Medal and Trophy on Monday evening.

Hope the end to Sarah's career in the Junior ranks will give her confidence as she will now peruse her goals at Senior level.
