This year’s Dundalk 10K Run, which will be organised by the DkIT Sports and Societies Office, will take place at Dundalk Institute of Technology on April 20 at 7pm.
This is the third year that Dundalk IT has been involved in organising the event. Over 700 people took part in the event in 2014 and 2015 and the aim this year is to get close to 1000 participants.
Speaking at the launch, DkIT Student Union President Aaron Lawless said: “The students look forward to the 10K every year and this year is no different.
“It is a great chance for Dundalk locals and students to come together as one community, which can be a rarity throughout the academic year and it is why I think it is so successful each year.”
The route for the race will remain the same as 2015. It will start in the college, proceed out towards Blackrock and return to the college via the impressive new DkIT Sport facility. The route provides lovely scenery but more importantly for the runners it is extremely flat.
DkIT Sports and Societies Officer, Derek Crilly said: “We’re delighted to once again host such a big event on campus. Over the last number of years we have grown strong links with the local sporting community and we have hosted a number of local and national events.
“Parkrun Dundalk takes place at our sports grounds each Saturday and we see the Dundalk 10k as another opportunity to promote health and fitness among the local community.”
Registration for the event is now open and available from the website www.dundalk10k.com or directly from registration.mylaps.com/dundalk-10k. An excellent early bird offer is available until February 29 which offers registration for €12.50. After this, the price will revert to €20.
