Craig Thornton’s 19th minute strike was enough to send Muirhevnamor back to the top of the table in the U17 league.
Despite their lowly league position, Ardee Celtic competed well in a tight first half with Tommy Molloy scoring in the 34th minute but he had just strayed into an offside position.
Muirhevnamor were slightly the better side over the course of the game and took the lead when Thornton found himself in the right place to hammer home the rebound after Gino Cooney’s free-kick was parried by Ardee ‘keeper Jamie Conlon.
Then Muirhevnamor ‘keeper Brian Gaffney produced a double save to deny McConnon and Alan Cunningham.
Ira Lawlor then brought out the best out of Conlon who produced two outstanding saves to keep his side in the game and in the 78th minute he produced another fine save to deny Cooney.
Muirhevnamor may have looked the more composed team for stretches, but Ardee Celtic never gave up with Alan Caragher coming close to snatching an equaliser only to be denied by an alert Brian Gaffney in the home goal as they deservedly held on for the points.
