A tough battle ended in a stalemate when nothing could separate Shamrocks and Muirhevnamor on Sunday afternoon in the U18 league.
Despite the visitors taking the lead, they had to dig deep after going behind 1-2 to earn a share of the points with a late equaliser by Rhys Shields.
There were fierce mini-battles all over the pitch in the game played in Fatima but referee Colm McConville had a tight grip on the proceedings and a share of the points was a fair outcome on the day.
Shamrocks had the better of the opening exchanges as they went in search of an early advantage. A Dean Brown free-kick clipped the top of Muirhevnamor crossbar and a long range effort from Conor Coleman was just too high to trouble Brian Gaffney.
The visitors began to find their feet and John McNally was denied by a fine save from Rilwan Bodunrin and Gino Cooney’s goalbound effort was blocked by defender Adam Shields.
The lead goal was scored by Fuad Animasahun in the 24th minute when his low shot found the corner of the Shamrocks net.
The sides were level shortly after when a careless ball out of defence fell kindly to Dean Browne and he brilliantly lobbed the stranded Muirhevnamor ‘keeper from 30-yards to make it 1-1.
Shamrocks went 2-1 ahead 14 minutes into the second-half. Ciaran McKeown threaded a pass into Dean Browne’s path but his fierce shot was turned away by Gaffney and Aedris Dukola followed up to hammer home the rebound.
Muirhevnamor then dominated the remainder of the game and flooded forward in search of an equaliser and it duly arrived with seven minutes remaining when a shot from Rhys Shields from outside the penalty area flew into the corner of the Shamrocks net.
