Bellurgan United’s dreams of a third round place in the FAI Junior Cup were dashed by defeat when they made the long trip to take on Courtown of Wexford.

The home side got off to a dream start when they opened the scoring on five minutes with Ciaran Rogan going close to an equaliser shortly afterwards.

Just before half time, the home side added a second to leave Alec Bothwell’s men with it all to do in the second 45 minutes.

The second half saw Bellurgan up the ante and they reduced the deficit midway through when Darryn Gaynor scored after Brian White had did the spadework.

Bellurgan maintained the pressure and Ciaran Sheelan grazed an upright while Keith Finnegan was denied by an excellent stop.

Ciaran Casey was afforded an opportunity to take the game into extra time but he was off target from a header as the Louth side somewhat harshly exited the competition.

BELLURGAN UTD: Robert Arthur, Owen Traynor (Stephen Finnegan), Damien Connor, (Pat Keenan), Ciaran Casey, Keith Finnegan, Ciaran Rogan, Brian White, Shane Finnegan, Jason Brennan, Darryn Gaynor, Ciaran Sheelan.
