Just days after capturing the North East Womens League trophy, Rock Celtic Ladies completed the double by beating Kells Celtic to win the UHY Challenge Cup at the MDL Grounds in Navan on Sunday afternoon.
Clodagh Mulholland opened the scoring for the Cormac McArdle and David Hoey managed side with a stunning effort from 20-yards that left Kells Celtic goalkeeper Sharon Mullen with no chance.
Kells rallied, though, and they restored parity when Edwina Olwell beat Una Pearson from the penalty spot despite the rock goalkeeper getting her hand to the ball.
Rock went back in front just before the interval when Emma Singleton fired a shot into the top corner from distance and the Seasiders took charge of the game when Emma Gorman’s close range header made it 3-1 early in the second-half.
Kells’ persistence pulled them back into the game when Jackie Kavanagh was on hand to smash home a rebound after a fine stop from Pearson.
However, just when Kells thought they were back in the game heartbreak struck with Singleton grabbing her second, and Rock’s fourth, with a spectacular effort from 30-yards that left Mullen with no chance.
And it was Singleton who put the seal on the win when she completed her hat-trick to claim Rock’s fifth from the penalty spot, completing the league and cup double for the Sandy Lane club.
