Glenmuir United took the U12 Dundalk FC cup with a narrow 1-0 victory over a resilient Quay Celtic side in the first of the Cup final double headers on Sunday.

The two teams had finished level on points in the league with Quay Celtic winning the play-off final after penalties and once again they served up an exciting game.

Niall O’Callaghan was inches away from opening the scoring for Glenmuir in the eighth minute and Mark Agnew came close for Quay on 11 minutes. Kyle Watters was next to threaten for Quay but his shot was well saved.

A mix up in the Quay Celtic defence minutes before the break led to a great opportunity for Kyle Connolly whose shot found the side netting.

Thomas Rice’s powerful header was scrambled off the line and Mark Agnew fired a shot off the bottom of the Glenmuir post all in the opening minutes of the second half.

Agnew looked certain to score in the 44th minute after a terrific pass from Man of the Match Aaron Mackin sent the Quay striker clear of the Glenmuir defence but his shot somehow went wide of the post.

Glenmuir responded with Ebuka Kwelele busting past the Quay defence but he was denied by the feet of Quay Celtic ‘keeper Odhran Coburn on two occasions with fine stops but the Glenmuir striker eventually got the better of Coburn with a terrific goal when he combined with Samuel Adekola to fire into the corner of the Quay net.

Quay Celtic piled on the pressure in search of an equaliser with Thomas Rice and Aaron Mackin going close and with two minutes remaining Mackin’s free kick from the edge of the box saw Glenmuir ‘keeper James O’Connell produce a stunning save to ensure Glenmuir were crowned the cup winners.
